Gabriel Loppé (1825-1913)
Signed and dated 1874, this oil by Gabriel Loppé (1825–1913) shows the Lauterbrunnen Breithorn seen from above Mürren.
The Lauterbrunnen Breithorn is one of three peaks in the German-speaking Alps sharing the name Breithorn (meaning 'Broad Horn'), distinct from the higher Breithorn above Zermatt. Rising above the celebrated Lauterbrunnen Valley, it offered Loppé a dramatic subject accessible from the village of Mürren, a favoured base for his Bernese Oberland painting excursions.
Collectors of Gabriel Loppé's work and of Lauterbrunnen Valley/Mürren Alpine views will find this a fine, precisely dated addition to his extensive Bernese Oberland output.
