Preparations for K2 Exhibition in London

With only a few weeks remaining before K2: James Hart Dyke opens at Marquis House, 67 Jermyn Street, James Hart Dyke visited the exhibition space to plan the hang. The folder he is holding in the photograph contains the layout of every painting, and a great deal of work is going on behind the scenes to bring the exhibition together.

Throughout the long approach to K2, James sketched and painted almost daily, often at altitude and in testing conditions, as a tribute to Vittorio Sella, the official photographer on the Duke of the Abruzzi’s 1909 expedition.

In bridging the 116 years between the two adventures, K2 will be shown first in London and then at the Forte di Bard, Museum of the Alps, in the Valle d’Aosta, where James’s paintings will hang alongside Sella’s photographs of the Karakoram. Bringing two venues and bodies of work together has required considerable organisation, and we are grateful to Felicity Stephenson and Annabel Owen for all their help.
