The Marine Paintings of the Late Stephen James, Esq. was a selling exhibition of over 30 British marine paintings, spanning some 150 years of maritime art from 1800 to 1950.
Held at John Mitchell Fine Paintings from 8th to 16th December 2022, the exhibition brought together a private collection devoted to marine and maritime painting, a longstanding tradition within British art. Dating from the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries, the collection offered a broad survey of historic British marine painting and the enduring importance of the sea as a subject for artists.
The exhibition also supported the Royal Yacht Squadron Isle of Wight Foundation, with a charitable donation made from the proceeds of sales. The Foundation works to support young people with connections to the Isle of Wight, helping them access education, vocational training and opportunities, particularly within the marine industry.
