Charles-Henri Contencin (1898-1898)
The Wetterhorn in winter seen from Bort, Grindelwald, Switzerlandoil on canvas18½ x 25½ in (46.5 x 65 cm)signedSoldSigned, this oil by Charles-Henri Contencin (1898–1955) shows the Wetterhorn in winter seen from Bort, Grindelwald, Switzerland.
Contencin returned repeatedly to the Bernese Oberland throughout his career, and this winter view of the Wetterhorn from the Bort viewpoint above Grindelwald is now the seventh distinct work by the artist in this collection – a testament to his prolific and wide-ranging engagement with the Swiss Alps.
Collectors of Contencin's work and of Grindelwald/Wetterhorn winter views will find this a fine addition, notably distinct from the similarly-titled Gabriel Loppé painting of the same mountain already in the collection – two different artists' interpretations of the same iconic peak.
