Circa 1865-1875, this albumen print by Adolphe Braun (1812–1877) shows Pontresina, in the Engadine valley of Switzerland. Published in Peaks & Glaciers 2021, cat. p.47.

Adolphe Braun began experimenting with a camera in 1851 and by 1857 had established a fine art publishing firm whose commercial success would ultimately eclipse his own individual reputation as a photographic pioneer. Pontresina, along with neighbouring St. Moritz, was among the Engadine resorts that Braun documented as part of his systematic photographic survey of the Swiss Alps.
