ref. 20This albumen print by Gabriel Loppé (1825–1913) shows a frozen river walk near Zermatt, with the figure identified as E. Loppé (ref. 20).
Better known as a painter, Loppé was also an accomplished mountaineer and photographer. His photographic work, often featuring family members and climbing companions, offers an intimate, documentary counterpart to his celebrated oil paintings of the same Alpine terrain.
Collectors of Gabriel Loppé's work across mediums, and of early Alpine mountaineering photography, will find this a distinctive companion piece to his other Zermatt photographs.
