Signed, this oil on board by Charles-Henri Contencin (1898–1955) shows a sunset view over Wengen, in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland.

Contencin painted extensively across the Bernese Oberland and Valais throughout his career, and his sunset and dusk studies of the high peaks are among his most atmospheric works, distinct from the more topographically precise daylight views for which he is also known.

Collectors of Contencin's work and of Wengen/Bernese Oberland Alpine views will find this an evocative example of his handling of Alpine light at the close of day.
