Signed with his monogram, this oil on panel by Alfred Stevens (Brussels 1823 – Paris 1906) depicts L'enfant à la poupée (The Child with the Doll).

Stevens was one of the most celebrated Belgian painters of elegant Parisian life in the nineteenth century, and while best known for his portraits of fashionable women, he also produced sensitive, intimate depictions of children, of which this is a fine example.
