Karl Anneler
Literature
Peaks & Glaciers 2021 cat p.43Signed, circa 1920, this oil by Karl Anneler (1886–1957) shows the Wetterhorn, Grindelwald, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. Published in Peaks & Glaciers 2021, cat. p.43.
Although Anneler trained as a decorative painter for theatre companies in both his native Bern and then in Munich, by 1910 he had established himself as an independent landscape and portrait painter. He lived in the Lötschental Valley for nearly twenty years, where he specialised in landscapes of the Bernese Oberland alongside traditional genre scenes from village life – weddings, processions and local customs.
Collectors of Karl Anneler's work and of Lötschental/Bernese Oberland Alpine painting will find this a fine, precisely dated example of his mature landscape practice.
