Signed, this oil on panel by Charles-Henri Contencin (1898–1955) shows le glacier blanc dans le massif des Écrins.

Contencin returned repeatedly to the Massif des Écrins throughout his painting and climbing career, and this is now the third distinct work by the artist in this collection to depict the Glacier Blanc and its surrounding peaks – a testament to how frequently he revisited this corner of the Dauphiné Alps.
