Signed, this oil on card by Gabriel Loppé (1825–1913) shows Mont Blanc seen from Sallanches.
Sallanches, in the Haute-Savoie, offers one of the most celebrated and widely painted views of Mont Blanc from the valley floor – a vantage point recorded by generations of Alpine artists. Loppé, one of the most prolific and celebrated of all painters of Mont Blanc, made repeated studies of the mountain from this and comparable viewpoints throughout his long career, each capturing subtly different conditions of light, season and atmosphere.
Collectors of Gabriel Loppé's work and of Mont Blanc/Sallanches views specifically will find this a fine small-format oil sketch, characteristic of his direct, plein-air working method.
